Accessibility Policy

This policy has been established and implemented to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). 

 

Our Statement of Commitment

Ground Effects Ltd. is committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity. We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and meeting accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. 

 

Definitions 

  • Dignity - Allowing a person with a disability to maintain self-respect and the respect of other people. People with disabilities are not treated as an afterthought or forced to accept lesser service, quality, or convenience.

  • Independence - Allowing a person with a disability to do things on their own without unnecessary help, or interference from others. 

  • Equal Opportunity - People with disabilities have an opportunity equal to that given to others. 

Training 

Ground Effects provides AODA training to employees and insures that those who deal with the public or other third parties on our behalf are similarly trained. Training is also provided to those involved in the development of policies, plans, practices and procedures related to the provision of goods and services.

Staff will also be trained and notified whenever changes are made to the current accessibility plan. 

 

Support Persons & Assistive Devices

A person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that person accompany them on our premises. Support persons will be treated as any other visitor to our offices.

  • Definition: A support person is an individual hired or chosen to accompany a person with a disability to provide services or assistance with communication, mobility, personal care, medical needs or access to goods and services

We permit the use of assistive devices by people with disabilities whether they are employed by Ground Effects or guests to the facility. We also welcome those guests who require their service animals.

 

Accessible Formats & Communication Supports

We will communicate with people in ways that take into account their disability. Ground Effects is currently in the process of performing an internal audit on all policies and training methods to insure that upon request, we are able to provide accessible formats and communication supports for persons with disabilities.

 

Recruitment Process & Career Development

Ground Effects notifies all internal and external job applicants that accommodations for disabilities will be provided to support participation during the entire recruitment process. If any are requested, we will work closely with the applicant to insure all accommodations are met. 

We strongly encourage internal advancement and career development and will continue to be proactive, identifying any barriers associated with the recruitment process. 

 

Individual Accommodation Plans & Emergency Response

Ground Effects provides individual accommodation and emergency response plans to those employees with both temporary and permanent disabilities where required. 

 

Performance Management

The Leadership Team at Ground Effects takes into account the accessibility needs of employees as well as any individual accommodations plans in respect to employee’s with permanent disabilities.

 

Feedback

Ground Effects provides survey’s to all employees allowing them to provide their feedback on different facets of the company. (Equal Opportunity, Accessibility, Resources, Employee Engagement, etc.)
